Curriculum ~ What, Where, Cost

Post a comment or ask a follow-up question

Question: How do I start to find a curriculum? What do I look for? Where do I look? How much can I expect it to cost?

Answer: The choices can be daunting. Read our getting started series including the article on choosing curriculum. Attend a convention or two with the sole purpose of looking and picking up catalogs well in advance of the time that you'll actually need them, so you're not pressured into buying something that you won't use.

The internet can be very helpful. We have some links on this site that could be a good place to start. You'll learn a lot. Many curriculum sites have very helpful explanations.

Talk with other home schoolers. Find out what they are using and whether or not they like it. Frequently you can save money by buying used materials and getting hints on where the good buys are. Nationally the average cost per child for home schoolers is in the $500-$600 range per child per year (that's all children). The expense for younger children tends to be less.
