Question: What is involved in moving to new grade levels...testing, etc?

Answer: Why do you need to think of your child as being in a certain grade? The reason is that you are using the institutional classroom as the pattern. We suggest that you ask the Lord to help you get away from that. You have the freedom to work with your child according to his gifts. If you finish a particular book, such as math, before the end of your school year, you have the freedom to move ahead into the next book right away. Likewise, if your child is struggling in a particular area, there is no need to fret about finishing the book before the end of the year. Let your child move at his own pace and complete the book as he is able.

Some kinds of testing are helpful, and some are relics of the classroom that have nothing to do with the best in education. Experience will help you to see the difference. Be sure to know the laws of your state so that you can give any tests that might be required.
